I’m in the Band!
Have you ever wondered why joining a band is important? It’s not just because it helps you become smarter. The band is where everyone is welcome to learn the language of music, it is where you can learn a new skill and express yourself through an instrument. It is where you can create music that is beautiful, sad, fun, and crazy. The band is where you can play music for others to enjoy and to share new ideas. Whether its marching in a parade, playing in a concert, or playing a solo for your grandparents, being in the band allows you to communicate your emotions. The band is a place where you are part of a team, a team that must work together to create beauty and art. Being in the band gives you a sense that you are part of something amazing. It is a place where you make lifelong friends, travel, go on wild adventures, and create incredible memories.
ABOUT THE BOOK
The inspiration for this book started a long time ago when I was preparing a lesson for my music education class. The assignment was to create a lesson for kindergarteners that introduces different instruments. So, I wrote a song for children to learn band instruments in a fun and easy way. Although I never became a music educator, I joined the army as a musician where I travelled the world and experienced amazing events all because of music. The music to the book is on the back page, that way you can sing the song I wrote 20 years ago as you look at the illustrations which showcase all the different types of venues that a musician can experience.
